igniter

Post by Trevor »

Have been working on the car for some time and igniter appears to be problem in car going. After now getting my 4th igniter got the car going. After the car warmed up it started to misfire and the igniter got hot and car stalled. After letting igniter cool down started the car again and same issue happens. Mechanic says it is another faulty igniter and it is the only thing that it could be! Is this a common problem with the igniters and is there an alternative part that can be used to bypass this issue.
Help? It was so good to hear the car finally go albeit short lived.

Are all the earth straps/wires fitted correctly and is the igniter grounded too. Just a thought seeing as 4 cannot be bad in a row. Because thats really bad luck.

yes have checked all grounded correctly and as mentioned the car starts and then cuts out after 3/4 minutes . Igniter gets hot and once cooled down the car starts and runs again sweetly again for same sort of time again and then cuts out.

Have a look at the condition of the spark plugs and leads. Because if the resistance is lower than standard that would cause extra current to flow through the ignition system making the ignitor get hot. It might not be but worth a look

Coil is brand new genuine toyota part no 90919-02113, also just put in new spark plugs and leads. Anyone know a good mechanic in the Sevenoaks/Tonbridge area knowledgable on the mr2. The problem mayn't be the igniter its just what the existing mechanic is telling me.
